Our Story

It was a big breakthrough: starting in September 2019, Apple allowed reading and writing on NFC chips. This means that all tuomi applications are now available across all systems. And the first projects have been really promising.

Many museums and national parks such as the Visitor Center on the 'Brocken' in the Harz Mountains or the Palatinate Museum of Natural History in Bad Dürkheim rely on tuomi NFC multimedia solutions. NFC, GPS, QR codes, beacons and object recognition all work together to create an exciting overall concept.

We are experts in the field of IT security and data protection, and we always design and develop our systems with "privacy by design" and "security by design" in mind. It is one of our competitive advantages. This focus on privacy and data security has led to us being commissioned with a large and truly unique project in the area of medical technology.

tuomi implements an NFC-based pilot solution in the Simeonstift municipal museum in Trier. This project brings tuomi to the attention of the Landesmuseum in Schleswig-Holstein Schloss Gottorf. Gottorf Castle has a travelling exhibition entitled "Of Epees, Sails and Cannons", which is also shown at the Maritime Museum in Kotka, Finland. The digital guide for the touring exhibition is the first large international NFC project for tuomi and the visitor response is enthusiastic. 


In order to gain access to further NFC technologies and open up more international markets, tuomi 2015 takes over 'tagage' from Hansaprint, Finland. tagage has been a leader in combining NFC and print since 2009. Companies from Finland, Sweden, Norway, South America and Spain become tuomi customers.


An NFC project with Bayer Healthcare in Singapore attracts a lot of attention. Thanks to the smart "Taplabel", customers in Guardian supermarkets can obtain information about the product right on the spot. This led to tuomi being named one of the 100 most innovative companies at the German SME summit 2015.


Johannes Roos wins the prize for the best presentation at Innosecure 2015. The contribution "NFC in the smartphone - the farewell to Mifare?" won the prize as people's choice.

tuomi starts developing software based on NFC technology. As the company's first major project, the more than 1,300 digital display panels of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) provide users with up to the minute information using tuomi software and NFC chips. Trustworthiness and reliability are hallmarks of what we do: the up time of the panels is over 99.9%.

tuomi advises the company Dom Sicherheitstechnik in Brühl in the field of NFC technology and software development for door locking systems.

The European Union supports the innovative ideas of tuomi. Thanks to the recodura GreenACCESS project, the physical key ring is a thing of the past. The access code is transmitted via NFC. This is not only secure, but also environmentally friendly because the lock itself does not need energy.

After being founded by Arja Tuomi Roos in 1995, the company that bears her name quickly becomes renowned as a trustworthy partner in the field of cloud computing, data encryption and other IT services. With its own data centre, the company starts off by providing services for graphic designers and mid-sized companies.
